Last week, Project Muso was invited to participate in a special consultation of President Obama’s Global Health Initiative. Project Muso Co-Executive Director Jessica Beckerman traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the consultation at USAID headquarters.
The consultation, facilitated by representatives of USAID, the CDC, and the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator, focused on 1) the proposed outcomes of President Obama’s Global Health Initiative 2) strategies focused on women’s health, 3) integrated approaches to global health interventions. The consultation was designed to share the goals and strategies of President Obama’s GHI, and to solicit feedback from key organizations.
The Project Muso team was honored to be selected to participate in this consultation, particularly as we share the GHI’s focus on creating integrated approaches to community health, and on women’s health and empowerment. Jessica Beckerman shared preliminary results of Project Muso’s operational research about how poverty creates barriers to health care. She discussed the results of Project Muso’s efforts to integrate malaria treatment with primary care strengthening, and discussed the value of Community Health Workers providing health care and advancing health systems research. She also discussed Project Muso’s strategies for involving faith leaders in community health mobilization, to serve as a bridge between the health care system and the community.
Project Muso is committed to continuing to share its model with national and international partners, so that the impact of Project Muso’s work can help advance global health and social justice throughout the world.
