  Community Action Committee

The Community Action Committee of Yirimadjo (CAC) was established and trained in 2005 through a collaboration between Project Muso and our partner Tostan, applying Tostan's celebrated approach to community mobilization. The CAC is a group of male and female community leaders and activists, which prioritizes the pressing challenges facing Yirimadjo and develops solutions to them. With the support of Project Muso, the CAC has:

The CAC also provides regular guidance to ensure that Project Muso is effectively addressing community needs, values, and priorities.

Now, as part of the launch of Tostan’s participatory education program in Yirimadjo, 14 new Community Management Committees have assembled in zones throughout Yirimadjo.

Each committee is composed of 17 community members and is responsible for supporting their center and facilitator, and for launching activities to improve the well-being of everyone in their community. The new members attended a rigorous 4-day training on leadership, social mobilization, and financial and material management, during which they formed subcommittees to focus on priority areas such as health, sanitation, clean water, and child protection. By identifying the most pressing problems in their community, developing solutions, and attaining the resources necessary to carry out activities, the Community Management Committees serve as a model for community-based development.
